COURMAYEUR, Aosta – It winds in the Freney area, on the left pillar of the Brouillard, with a difficulty that reaches 6c.
The new route opened on 1 August by Hervè Barmasse, together with the Basque brothers Iker and
Eneko Pou, on the Italian side of Mont Blanc. “Ascension interprets and continues philosophy and ethics in a modern key

The confirmation that the new route on the Bianco is really a finished work arrived just yesterday, accompanied by the story and the first ones
photographs by Barmasse and his companions. The trio left on July 30 to climb to the Monzino refuge (2590 meters): the weather was bad,
but the forecasts gave an improvement for the following days and the mountaineers wanted to go up to take advantage of the
better the window of good weather. The next day they went up to the Eccles bivouac (3852 meters), from where they started to open the route
new between the Pillars of Brouillard.
“It is a clean route – says Barmasse -, without bolts, climbed 11 pitches up to 6c with only friends and 4 pegs, open and
always free climbing. Like a great classic, after the climb you continue up to the summit of Mont Blanc for the crest of
Brouillard. All things considered, it is an overall climb of Himalayan proportions, considering that it is a
total of 3300 meters of difference in altitude from the parking lot to the summit of Mont Blanc “.
During the ascent, the climbers had with them only the necessary to bivouac and some pitons as a traditional safety measure.
On the summit of Mont Blanc, before descending from the French side of the mountain and arriving in Chamonix, they passed
an unforgettable bivouac.

E’ un omaggio all’alpinismo romantico la via nuova aperta al 1 agosto da Hervè Barmasse, insieme ai fratelli baschi Iker ed
Eneko Pou, sul versante italiano del Monte Bianco. “L’ascensione interpreta e prosegue in chiave moderna la filosofia e l’etica
di chi, nel lontano 1959, per primo ha posto le mani sui monoliti di questo versante del Monte Bianco, Walter Bonatti” spiega
l’alpinista valdostano.
La conferma che la via nuova sul Bianco é davvero opera fatta è arrivata proprio ieri, corredata dal racconto e dalle prime
fotografie di Barmasse e compagni. Il trio è partito il 30 luglio per salire al rifugio Monzino (2590 metri): il tempo era brutto,
ma le previsioni davano un miglioramento per i giorni seguenti e gli alpinisti hanno voluto portarsi in quota per sfruttare al
meglio la finestra di bel tempo. Il giorno dopo sono saliti al bivacco Eccles (3852 metri), da dove sono partiti per aprire la via
nuova tra i Pilastri del Brouillard.
“E’ una via pulita – racconta Barmasse -, senza spit, salita per 11 lunghezze fino al 6c con soli friends e 4 chiodi, aperta e
scalata sempre in libera. Come una grande classica, dopo la scalata si prosegue fino in vetta al monte Bianco per la cresta del
Brouillard. Fatti due conti, si tratta di una salita complessivamente di proporzioni himalayane, considerando che si tratta di un
totale di 3300 metri di dislivello dal parcheggio fino alla vetta del Bianco”.
Nella salita gli alpinisti avevano con sè solo il necessario per bivaccare e alcuni chiodi come tradizionale misura di sicurezza.
Sulla vetta del Monte Bianco, prima di scendere dal versante francese della montagna e arrivare a Chamonix, hanno passato
un bivacco indimenticabile.
Style

“The bivouac was almost a gift – continues the Aosta Valley mountaineer -. It was cold but there was no wind, the conditions were
allowed and we wanted to take the opportunity. The show at that altitude was truly breathtaking “.
Lo Stile
“Abbiamo scelto uno stile che rispetta l’etica dei primi salitori – racconta ancora Barmasse -, che per tornare a casa volevano e
dovevano per forza arrivare ai 4810 metri della vetta del monte Bianco. “La Classica Moderna” rispecchia la mia visione
romantica dell’alpinismo, nato proprio su questa montagna nel 1786 e oggi spesso troppo appeso al grado piuttosto che alla
fantasia, e la voglia di riscoprire e condividere le emozioni della montagna con amici. Per concludere al meglio la cosa, non
poteva mancare un bivacco sotto le stelle sulla cima del Monte Bianco di Courmayeur”.
“Il bivacco è stato quasi un regalo – prosegue l’alpinista valdostano -. Era freddo ma non c’era vento, le condizioni lo
permettevano e noi abbiamo voluto cogliere l’occasione. Lo spettacolo a quella quota era veramente da togliere il fiato”.
